Foster Experiences: KIFS Teen Writes About Summer Project Yoga Program
Over the summer KIFS received a grant from the Greater Cincinnati Foundation which was used for a yoga and mindfulness program for our foster children. KIFS reached out to Mint Yoga Studio in Fort Thomas about the possibility of a program which grew into a wonderful partnership with Project Yoga Cincinnati. Project Yoga Cincinnati instructors led our KIFS kids in an summer long program designed specifically for working through and healing trauma through breathing, poses, and mindfulness. We asked one of our KIFS teens to write a little about her experience and this is her article.
Yoga is Helpful to Your Mind
Did you know yoga can lower blood pressure and reduce insomnia? Yoga is helpful to the mind and well being of humans because a yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness, relieves chronic stress, and sharpens concentration.
First, yoga is helpful for your mind by creating mental clarity and calmness. One activity experienced during yoga is calm time. After your hot sweaty workout you get to calm down and relax. After yoga you are calm and refreshed. One of my fellow yogis said her favorite part of the class was relaxing. Yoga can really calm the mind.
Secondly, yoga is helpful for your mind because it relieves chronic stress. After yoga you feel refreshed and a sense of relief. Yoga helped me personally especially when I was having a bad day.
Yoga also helps sharpen concentration. One of the most effective yoga activities is candle gazing. Not only does it improve concentration but it is helpful to your eyes. Yoga poses also help you improve concentration because you have to concentration to balance.
Yoga creates mental clarity and calmness, relieves chronic stress, and sharpens concentration. Yoga has had an impact on many people. Another participant in the summer Project Yoga program said, “yoga was something different, but over time I realized it was helpful any time I was angry. Yoga was my go-to solution.” This shows how yoga changed her life. Maybe you should consider trying yoga!
