KIFS is a constant source of community support for our foster families and we work hard to create an atmosphere where stories, joys and challenges can be shared. Below are a handful of interviews from our foster community. If you are part of the KIFS community and interested in sharing your experience please get in touch!
How did you get involved in fostering children?
We were inspired by a family that was fostering in our church and another family that we knew through a ministry we served in and were so impressed by their care and love for foster/ adopted children. We found KIFS specifically while I was looking for families that may need childcare through an ad on craigslist.
What struggles have you encountered through fostering?
Our home being small with only one bathroom has been a struggle with a larger family as well as the learning curve of taking care of a special needs child.
Why should others consider fostering?
We hear the horror stories every day on the new of children being abused and neglected, parents overdosing, etc. We may not be able to change that, but as foster families we can help change the outcome for so many children.
And the children are our society’s future. All children deserve to know God created them and loves them dearly.
“As foster families we can help change the outcome for so many children.”
What joys have you encountered through fostering?
Seeing the children thrive with their health, nutrition, school grades and emotional struggles fading over time. Taking the children to do something new that they have never experienced or tried before. Seeing our biological children grow in compassion for not only special needs children but grow to love their foster siblings.
What have you learned about yourselves through fostering?
That we could handle a lot more than we ever imagined. To be more grateful and thankful for all of the many blessings we have.
